Meet Lynne Herbert, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor & Supervisor · Certified Soul Motion™ Teacher · Licensed Psilocybin Facilitator
Returning, not finding.
I keep coming back to the idea of returning. Returning to the body, to connection, to what you know underneath all the noise, to the parts of yourself that may have gotten armored, quiet, or lost along the way.
I'm Lynne Herbert, working in Bend, Oregon, offering individual and couples therapy, consultation and supervision for therapists, movement and dance, and individual and group work with ketamine and psilocybin.
On paper, those may look like very different things. To me, they're all part of the same work, different ways of exploring what happens when we become more present to ourselves, our bodies, our relationships, and what's alive in us.....and when we have someone willing to accompany us there.
“Finding yourself is not really how it works... Finding yourself is actually returning to yourself. An unlearning, an excavation, a remembering who you were before the world got its hands on you.”
— EMILY MCDOWELL
I've been a licensed counselor since 2000 and opened my private practice in Bend in 2006.
My early clinical training was deeply rooted in attachment and relationship. I spent three years working intensively in residential settings under the direct supervision of Daniel Hughes, PhD, developer of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy — work centered on children experiencing severe attachment challenges, and on creating new experiences of safety and connection within relationship.
That time shaped me profoundly. I came to understand connection not simply as something that feels good, but as a core human need. Our earliest relationships help shape how we experience safety, closeness, vulnerability, and ourselves in relationship to others. That attachment lens still lives underneath everything I do, expanding to now include spirit, earth, and love.
Over the years, my therapy practice has broadened to include mindfulness, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic awareness, and EMDR. I work with the protective patterns we develop in response to trauma, relationship, and life's challenges.....with curiosity about what those patterns have done for us, rather than treating them as something that simply needs to disappear. Because they came from somewhere. They protected something. And sometimes, before anything can shift, that deserves to be understood.
Connection has always been at the center of my work
ROOTS
The body knows things the mind cannot always explain
THE BODY & THE DANCE
The longer I've done this work, the less interested I've become in treating the mind and body as separate things. I pay attention to the ways our bodies hold, protect, brace, soften, reach, retreat, and communicate.
Sometimes we can talk about something for a very long time and still find ourselves circling it. Then the body gives us another way in. Movement has been one of those ways for me personally — over the years I explored meditation, Feldenkrais, 5Rhythms, Soul Motion™, and outdoor play as mindfulness practice. Those experiences gave me places to get out of my head and listen differently, to notice what was happening below the neck. Eventually, that exploration changed my professional work too.
In 2019, I took a three-month sabbatical and rode my bike across Europe. I came home knowing I wanted more embodied work in my professional life. In January 2020, I launched Soul in Motion.
What began as another part of my work became a place for movement, connection, curiosity, and community. I've since offered weekly in-person and online movement gatherings, deeper workshops, and Tending, a therapeutic group for people who want to move with what's alive in them while being supported and witnessed in community.
There isn't a right way to move in these spaces. There isn't a performance you're trying to give. You don't have to know how to dance. For me, movement is another place to practice presence, to listen to the intelligence of the body, explore relationship, play, notice, and perhaps re-inhabit parts of ourselves we've become disconnected from. There's a spot for you exactly as you are.
How Soul in Motion began
Grief changed me
WHAT GRIEF TAUGHT ME
In early 2024, my partner died suddenly.
“There isn't a neat sentence I can write that wraps up what this experience has done to me, or what continues to unfold. I am forever changed.”
Grief rearranged my landscape in ways I’d never imagined possible. It deepened my relationship with movement and group-based healing. It altered my understanding of what it means to sit with something that cannot be fixed. And it brought me into more intimate contact with the importance of being accompanied when life asks us to hold what feels impossible to hold.
It also opened another door in my professional work. I began training in psychedelic-assisted therapy, specifically with ketamine and psilocybin. I completed a 10-month training with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and became a licensed psilocybin facilitator in the State of Oregon.
My own experiences with these modalities have been deeply powerful, and today psychedelic work is another way I accompany people in exploring what may be difficult to access through words alone. As with everything else I do, I don't approach this work as the person who knows where your experience should take you. You are the one having the journey. I'm there to accompany it.
Therapy. Movement. Psychedelic work. Supervision. They may look different from the outside, but I experience all of them the same way: as a kind of dance. Some days I set the rhythm. Often I'm following someone else's lead, or simply standing witness while they find their own way through.
I am not a guru. I'm not interested in standing above someone's process or handing them the answer to their own life. I trust that there is intelligence in you already, my role is to help create the conditions where you can hear it. That may mean sitting with the longings of your heart and soul, noticing what your body already knows, staying with grief instead of looking away, or getting curious about a pattern you've carried for decades. And sometimes, honestly, it just means giving your brain a break and playing. There is room for all of it here.
Some days I lead. Some days I follow.
HOW I SHOW UP
The work I offer today
Today, my work in Bend and online brings together every path I've traveled over the past 25+ years — therapy, supervision, Soul in Motion, and psychedelic-assisted work. The thread running through all of them is connection: to ourselves, our bodies, each other, community, and something larger than any one of us. Presence rather than performance. Curiosity rather than judgment. Accompaniment rather than answers.
I take my training seriously. I also take seriously the importance of doing my own work, decades of it, with teachers, mentors, clients, groups, movement, grief, my own body, and all the parts of life that don't arrive with instructions.
So yes, I'm well-trained. And still, underneath that, I'm a little feral. I’ve loosened my grip on any agenda and I'll follow the wisdom that shows up in the body before it shows up in words. Give me curiosity and playfulness over a plan, and I'll take it every time.
I don't need you to arrive here polished. You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for, or have the right words for it. You can simply arrive. I'd be honored to meet you there.
Trained, grounded, and a little feral
AND ALSO…
A space to explore what’s possible.
If something here stirs something in you, there are many ways we might work together—therapy, movement, a journey, supervision. Maybe you’re carrying grief, moving through a transition, or simply sensing that something in you is ready for more room to breathe, move, or unfold.
Whatever brings you, I’ll offer a place to be met as you are, and a space to explore what’s possible from there.
